Osteopathic Medicine
What to Expect

Each session will be tailored to your specific needs. A wide range of hands on techniques can be used. The amount of applied pressure varies and can be adjusted to your comfort level.

Sessions are active, you will be asked to create movements during techniques, and may be asked to stand up and move around throughout a session.

Communication

Ongoing consent is important, I will explain what to expect before I do a technique and you have the ability to say no throughout the appointment.

Clear communication is required to keep you engaged, present and alert.

Clinical Assessment

Each session will have time allotted for clinical medical assessment and visual observation.

Clinical diagnosis will be done and communication with other medical professionals can be done as required.

Treatment

Based on the assessment, anatomically specific osteopathic medicine and myofascial techniques will be used to address postural patterns. Emotions may arise as trauma is released. Inflicting pain does not have to be a part of this work, we will work together to adjust the pressure and maximize results.

Movement

Observing movement patterns can help to identify limitations, asymmetries and dysfunction. The results of the screen help tailor the treatment to your specific needs and assign proper corrective exercise solutions. It also helps to integrate the increased body awareness from the treatment.

Attire

It is best to have as much access to skin as possible. However, it is important that you are comfortable throughout the session. Typically, this work is done with the patient in athletic gear or a swim-suit, but dress to your comfort level. You will be assessed while standing and moving, and treated without sheets.
